Who is
Catharinna?

A lifelong relationship with making.

THE ARTIST

Made by hand.
Considered in form.

Catharinna is a Brazilian textile artist based in Ireland, whose relationship with fibre and handcraft began at the age of eight.

What started as a childhood fascination with crochet developed into a lasting exploration of materials, techniques and the possibilities of creating by hand.

In 2017, she founded Crochê Moderno, an educational platform dedicated to contemporary crochet, building a community of more than 100,000 followers across YouTube and Instagram.

Her artistic practice has evolved towards sculptural textile compositions, where natural materials, volume and refined proportions take centre stage.

Material. Form.
Restraint.

Catharinna's work is guided by a preference for simplicity, refined proportions and a restrained palette.

Drawn to natural fibres, particularly Irish sheep's wool, she explores the relationship between softness and structure, creating dimensional textile compositions with a distinctive architectural presence.

Texture and volume take precedence over colour. Each element is considered in relation to the whole, allowing the material itself to become the central expression of the work.

THE PHILOSOPHY

The art
of making.

At the heart of Catharinna's practice is the pleasure of working with her hands. Curiosity for craftsmanship, design and different techniques continues to shape her approach.

Her work is informed by an appreciation for considered design, thoughtful details and the enduring appeal of simplicity.

Created to
be experienced.

Catharinna approaches each work with an awareness of the space it may inhabit.

Her compositions explore how texture, scale and sculptural volume can bring depth and character to thoughtfully designed interiors.

The intention is not simply to decorate a wall, but to create an artwork with its own presence — one that enters into dialogue with the architecture around it.
